January Jam

We did it, we finally got the boys together for jamming! Chuck, Ed, Bryce and Tim showed up. This was the first time that we had Drums and Bass in the same place!

We are sounding better and better every time we play together, and learning new songs. Some are going well, some need work. We added Gimme Shelter, Jumpin Jack Flash, Gloria and Keep on Rockin in the free world, and played a super fast version of the Bryce Song.

I personally cannot wait to do it again!

Gimme Shelter!

Chuck demonstrates yet another beautiful guitar!

Just jammin.

Our Drummer. Rockin!

I love this guitar!

Ed adds a little polyphonic spree to the jam.

Tim shows off his birthday present and the haircut he wishes he could have.

Stuff I have been listening to . . .

Besides G. Love and Special Sauce . . . I have been listening to some of my favorite surf/punk/rock bands, most otable of which is Agent Orange and Social Distortion.

Simple, straight forward tunes. I love it.

Drum Hero: Jeff "Houseman" Clemens

Zencomix posted a comment on my last drum hero post saying that I should check out G. Love and Special Sauce drummer Jeff Clemens. This served to remind me that I love the G. Love and also brought back happy memories of seeing G. Love with Donovan Frankenrieter and Jack Johnson at the Columbia Gorge Ampitheater this fall.

Houseman
The Houseman is an excellent drummer who does a lot of interesting technical stuff and ranges freely between styles. He does all of this with a very practical kit that is far from extravagant.

Mother Nature can be a cold bitch!

Todays long awaited and often rescheduled jam was postponed when Mother Nature got all nasty with Portland. When I woke this morning it was 23 degrees farenheit and beginning to sleet. By 10:00 am it had warmed to 25 degrees and my street looked like a nice shiny sheet of glass.

Sadly we canceled the jam for safety reasons.

I am bummed about it because I had worked on a bunch of new songs. . .

Gimme Shelter
Gloria
Ring of Fire
Bad Luck
Ball and Chain
Secret Agent Man

. . . and was ready to kind of kick some ass with the crew. Ah well . . . life goes on. I will probably forget how those damn songs go next week. Perhaps we can rock next weekend instead.

Juniorrocker RSS feed URL

If you are inclined to read my blog using an RSS reader you can subscribe using the url: http://juniorrocker.blogspot.com/atom.xml

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird (an excellent FREE opensource mail client and RSS reader) and it works really well. I may change the way I post stuff so that it is more interesting to read in that format though.

The 1st First Friday Jam of 2005

We jammed again at Francis Street Studios on the 1st First Friday of '05. We expected a large group but ended up with a very small group instead. It was fun.

The play list included a pretty standard bunch of rock songs . . . Keep on Rockin in the free world, Take the money and run, Circle, and a bunch of relatively unrecognizable jam songs.

Late in the evening (about 15 minutes before shutdown time) Johnny's friend Daniel arrived and broke off some killer lead stuff. It was really nice. Turns out Daniel is located in Del Mar, is a novice surfer and a gigging musician.

Below are some rather uninspired photos of the jam.
